Cary McMahon

Cary McMahon brings a diverse professional background in advertising, marketing, and large-format graphics production. She holds a B.S. in Graphic Communications Design and Business from Skidmore College. Over the past 15 years, Cary has focused primarily on special event planning and community-building, leading the parent association at her daughters’ school and contributing to her husband’s family business in the heavy-duty truck industry. The McMahon family has been deeply involved with AFAR since 2019, inspired by their shared passion for ancient history. Both of Cary’s daughters have participated in multiple AFAR research projects in Portugal, Belize, and Spain, as well as in AFAR’s professional conferences. Their experiences traveling and working together on-site—immersed in diverse cultures and histories with members of the scientific community —have been truly transformative for the entire family. Cary is honored to give back to the organization that has had such a profound impact on her family by serving as an AFAR Administrative and Special Events Volunteer.
