Debra S. Walker

 

Maya archaeologist and SMU graduate (1990) Debra Walker specializes in ceramic analysis. She has worked in Belize (Colha, Cerro Maya, Aventura), Guatemala (Naachtun), and Mexico (Yaxuna, Yaxnohcah), and is currently project ceramicist at Yaxnohcah and Aventura. She is a courtesy curator for the Cerro Maya collections at the Florida Museum of Natural History. Walker recently edited Perspectives on the Ancient Maya of Chetumal Bay (2016) and Pre-Mamom Pottery Variation and the Preclassic Origins of the Lowland Maya (in press). She also served four terms on the Monroe County (Florida Keys) School Board (1994–2010), where she championed math, science, and arts education.
