George J. Bey III is Professor of Anthropology in the Department of Sociology/Anthropology, Millsaps College. He holds the Chisholm Chair in Arts and Sciences.

His area of focus is northern Yucatan, initially at Ek Balam on the northern plains (together with William Ringle) and since 2000 in the Puuc region, in collaboration with Ringle and Tomas Gallareta Negrón.

His interests are ceramics, the evolution of complex societies and archaeometry.  He is the co-editor with Kathryn Brown of Pathways to Complexity: A View from the Maya Lowlands.
