Barry Kidder has almost 10 years of experience working on the ancient Maya in Belize and Mexico. His doctoral research, which was funded by the National Science Foundation and Lambda Alpha, examines household quality of life and community-level interactions at the site of Ucanha, Yucatan, Mexico, when it was physically integrated with a larger regional polity headed by Ucí around the Terminal Preclassic/Early Classic (50 BCE – 400 CE) transition.

He has also published on the efficacy of LiDAR and concepts of animism in the Northern Lowlands.
